How to buy, step by step

Whoever opens your custody account also takes your orders to the exchange.

Five steps

  1. Pick the bank or broker

It has to be a BODIVA member. Ask for its price list (preçário) before you open the account, with the commissions and the custody fee.

    Where to check

Look the name up on BODIVA's member list and in the CMC register, which lists brokerages and dealers separately from registered banks. The CMC also publishes alerts about unauthorised firms. Only trading members buy and sell for clients.

  2. Open the custody account

It's where your shares and bonds are held in your name. Your money stays in your bank account.

    The contract

You open the account by signing an intermediation contract (contrato de intermediação). The securities are registered at the Central de Valores Mobiliários de Angola (CEVAMA), and the Capital Markets Commission (CMC) regulates the market.

  3. Choose what to buy

BODIVA prices shows the last price of every share and bond.

  4. Place the order and pay

You tell the intermediary the security and the quantity. For shares, your order only goes through when someone sells at that price.

    When the securities arrive

According to BODIVA, the securities reach your custody account after financial settlement, when the money is transferred.

  5. Check it's in your name

On the intermediary's statement or in the Carteira do Investidor.

Look it up on BODIVA's member list and in the CMC register. If it's on neither, don't give it money.
